Off we go...into the WildBlue yonder...
SUNDAY. It's been six weeks and three days since we ordered high-speed internet from Comcast. The WildBlue Internet installer placed a nice little minidish on our roof today and we now have high-speed internet! The best part is that I ordered this service on Tuesday, and as promised, the dish was installed in only five days.
The speed is comparable to cable, after "signal latency" is factored into the equation. If you've ever experienced a satellite phone connection, you'll understand what latency is. In a word, it's a delay. But it's bearable, and a good deal faster than dialup. At least I can work on my websites now.
Unfortunately, my wireless router bought the farm a couple of hours ago.
It's good to be back! Yeehaw!!!!

Is the space lag only when you log on or each time you send and receive?

Sammie: The lag only occurs when first contacting a server. Once the server is connected, the pages load quickly, but there's a lag of a few seconds before the page loads. Once the page begins loading, the speed is comparable to cable or DSL. Uploads haven't been nearly as fast as advertised, but they are still about as fast as I was getting with cable in Florida.
Glad to have you back amongst the hi speed people.Dial up ?? Did not know that it still exsisted!! Anyways Charter hi speed installed in hours and it is lightening fast uo and down loading. Besides , on the Dish , i would fear reception from an Air Traffic Controler with bad news.....anyways , it'd so good to have the worlds best web'ster back where she belongs :)
